Between 2003 and 2006 I made this reportage following policemen in Santiago del Chile for several days and nights. I participated in chases, gunfights, and witnessed violent deaths. I semplicemnte wanted to create a visual record of life on the streets of Santiago. I was 30 years old and was inspired by French photographer Patrick Zachmann's work made on the streets of Naples in the early 1980s. I also visited both women's and men's prisons in Santiago, shoving the camera in the faces of the inmates, who always came across as sociable and sympathetic. This work done on film was made many years before some Chilean TV channel decided to follow the local policemen and make it into a TV show.
